Community
Generosity, concern, and a spirit of sharing are embedded in Native American culture, and have long been cherished traditions of the Barona Band of Mission Indians. Lifestyle changes and the success of Barona Valley Ranch Resort & Casino have strengthened this tenet of open hand and heart, and today the Barona Band of Mission Indians embraces these traditions through countless charitable efforts.

The success of Barona Valley Ranch Resort & Casino has also resulted in millions of dollars of positive economic impact for San Diego, from supplying thousands of jobs to local residents, to the purchase of goods and services.
Since 1994, the Barona Band of Mission Indians has also used gaming revenues to effect positive change on the reservation. Within their own community, the Tribe has made significant contributions to:
- Provide scholarship opportunities to tribal members
- Construct a charter school and community center on the reservation that serves tribal children, as well as children from the surrounding community
- Build the Barona Cultural Center and Museum, which shares the history of San Diego's Native Americans with thousands of visitors a year
- Help build homes for tribal families
- Create a Senior Home Improvement Fund to assist the elderly with needed improvements
- Build a $3.5 million state-of-the-art waste water treatment facility
- Provide comprehensive insurance coverage to tribal members and their families
- Build and operate a state-of-the-art fire station for the reservation and surrounding communities
- Share millions of dollars with 14 non-gaming tribes in San Diego County

*According to the U.S. Department of Commerce Research, it is estimated that 42 jobs are created for every million spent on goods and services.
**Coordinating with the U.S. Department of Justice, appropriate Barona Valley Ranch Resort & Casino management meets monthly with Federal Bureau of Investigation officials to review casino personnel, security, and operational practices and policies.
***The Barona Tribal Government has adopted a policy of purchasing goods and services from San Diego County vendors.
****The Barona Band of Mission Indians has engaged Deloitte & Touche to provide independent audits of casino operations for review by the Tribal Government, a function similar to that provided to the U.S. Government by the General Accounting Office; and California Government, by the State Controller. A separate accounting firm provides independent audits of the Barona Tribal Government.
